West Parkside and Centennial District counting down to take off
The story about Senator Casey securing $45 million (yes, that’s million) for the revitalization of that strip of Fairmount Park between the Zoo and the Mann, Parkside Ave to the south and Montgomery Dr. to the north is all over the news today – including in this story by WHYY’s Peter Crimmins.
I don’t have much to add except that I wish I could come up with some Scooby-Doo-esque scheme to dress up as a ghost and scare people out of there so I can come in and snatch up all of the land “dirt cheap.” Ever since the mayor’s race in 2003 when I had the opportunity to tour the area extensively with the candidate and meet some of the folks from the Business Association of West Parkside, I have bought into the idea that this is next great neighborhood in Philadelphia.
If only I just had the capital to go in and buy while the getting is still… possible.
As for the Centennial District and its importance to the city and the nation’s history, WHYY was all over that months ago with this video from the “Experience” series on TV12.
Yep. We know stuff. A lot of stuff. Enjoy the video.
